
MINE DETECTOR BACKPACK
Production Specifications: Design and manufacture a backpack that holds a portable land mine detector for military personnel. The custom backpack needed to be comfortable to wear for prolonged periods of time. The backpack needed to have dedicated compartments to hold each part of the mine detector when unfolded.
Design Proposal: Our Product Development Team created a detailed Photoshop rendering of the backpack’s front, back, and inside for our customer’s review.
Approved Design: The backpack was constructed of an olive drab, 1000 denier urethane coated Cordura® material. The back and back liner was encased with 1/2 inch foam. For added comfort, the backpack had a dual sternum strap and foam encased shoulder straps.
AVIATION HEADSET CASE
Production Specifications: Design and manufacture a durable carrying case that would house a headset worn by pilots. The carrying case needed to have a pocket for the ear piece part of the headset. A round shape needed to be formed into the carrying case so that the headset cord could wrap around the outside. The carrying case also needed to have a rising bed for the headset back.
Design Proposal: Our Product Development Team created a detailed line drawing of a carrying case for our customer’s review. Our Design Engineers worked with our CAD Technician to design a PRO-E model of a formed tray to fit inside the case to keep the headset in place.
Approved Design: Our thermoforming process was chosen to manufacture a semi-rigid, EVA case for more durability. The material is black 600 denier polyester laminated to EVA foam. The inside liner is black jersey knit material. A black polypropylene mesh pocket was added to the inside of the carrying case to hold an instructional CD. An injection molded handle was added for easy transport.
