Polo’s Ultrasonic Sealing Capabilities

Ultrasonic sealing is a process used in manufacturing that employs high-frequency ultrasonic waves to generate localized heat, facilitating the joining of materials. This technology is particularly prevalent in several areas of manufacturing. Polo uses ultrasonic sealing for joining materials not suited for RF sealing and dissimilar materials, bonding nylon, polyester and securing hook/loop to products.

4 Reasons why Ultrasonic Sealing may be your products preferred production method:

  1. High Precision: Ultrasonic sealing provides exceptional accuracy, ensuring consistent and reliable seals that are crucial for high-quality and complex applications.
  2. Speed and Efficiency: The process is remarkably fast, completing the sealing in seconds, which significantly enhances production speed and efficiency compared to other methods.
  3. Strong and Durable Seals: Ultrasonic sealing creates robust and durable bonds between materials, offering superior strength and reliability.
  4. No Additional Materials Required: It eliminates the need for adhesives, simplifying the process and reducing overall material costs.

Ultrasonic sealing does have a few drawbacks, such as limited effectiveness with certain materials, high equipment costs, and it may also not always deliver the desired bond strength for every application. However, Polo can design a sealing plan tailored to your specific needs. Whether we as partners choose ultrasonic sealing or any of the other methods we offer, you can be confident that you’ll receive the highest quality seal for your product.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are suitable for ultrasonic sealing?

Ultrasonic sealing is compatible with many thermoplastic materials, including nonwovens, films, injection molded components and coated fabrics like nylon, polyester, and polypropylene.

What are the advantages of ultrasonic sealing compared to other sealing methods?

Ultrasonic sealing produces strong, precise, and clean seams without solvents, adhesives, or a heated tool. It’s fast, repeatable, and ideal for sensitive applications where precision is critical.

Can ultrasonic-sealed products be customized with designs or logos?

Yes. Ultrasonic sealed products can incorporate embossed patterns, logos, or unique seam designs, offering both functional and aesthetic customization.

Which industries commonly use ultrasonic-sealed products?

Medical, automotive, filtration, and safety industries frequently use ultrasonic sealing for applications such as disposable protective gear, filtration components, and sealed products.

What is the maximum thickness of materials that can be ultrasonically sealed?

Generally, up to about 0.060 inches, depending on the substrate and weld configuration. We are open to weld testing any specific materials at the customer’s request.

Are there any environmental benefits associated with ultrasonic sealing?

Yes. Ultrasonic sealing is an energy-efficient, solvent-free process that produces minimal waste and supports sustainable manufacturing practices.
